The authors of The School Wobblies are two Australian psychiatrists who work with children and adolescents with anxiety and panic disorders. The book is aimed at children who have trouble handling school or who cannot go to school without anxiety. The book addresses the wobblies (the worries lurking in kids’ minds) and provides children with methods of coping. A wobbly thermometer is used on a scale of 1 to 100 and children are taught to lower the reading to beat the wobblies. The book is written to appeal to younger children but without being too simplistic for older ones and even has a message for adult wobbly sufferers. Author Lori Lite has written three wonderful books which introduce relaxation techniques and can be learned by even very young children. A fourth book teaches the use of affirmations in creating and maintaining self-esteem.
An animated caterpillar teaches children how to slow down both mind and body and get a good, restful sleep.
This book illustrates a visualization technique that both parent and child can enjoy together as the title characters fill themselves with the colours of the rainbow. Visualization promotes feelings of well-being, relaxation and healing.
Both you and your child are taught a simple breathing technique called circular breathing which creates inner peace and calm. This self-calming breathing is easy for children to learn to do by themselves.
A group of forest animals show a girl "just how special life can be" introducing both parent and child to the use of affirmations in increasing self-esteem and feeling good about themselves. The books are available individually or as a package and, additionally, on a CD, from Litebooks. |
